San Diego Halloween Events for Kids: The Before-Bedtime Guide
Candy trails, LEGO monster houses, and a whole street of trick-or-treating, all wrapped up before the littles hit their wall.
Trick-or-treating after dark with a three-year-old is a lot of things. Relaxing isn’t one of them. By the time it’s dark enough to feel properly spooky, the smallest ghosts are tired, cold, and one dropped lollipop away from a meltdown. San Diego has a better answer: a handful of Halloween events that run in daylight or early evening, with candy stations, friendly characters, and nobody jumping out of a hedge.
Here are four built for small kids, with the 2026 dates, hours, and costs. Details shift a little every year, so check before you go. The events themselves come back every October.
Four San Diego Halloween events for kids that wrap up by early evening.
- SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular: candy trail, Baby Shark show, Fridays through Sundays
- LEGOLAND Brick or Treat: LEGO monster houses, candy stations, built for ages 2 to 12
- Beachside Fall Fest at Belmont Park: free trick-or-treating on October Sundays
- Trick-or-Treat on India Street: Little Italy, one Sunday afternoon, October 25
- Bring your own candy bag (SeaWorld requires one)
- Pack a layer for the walk back to the car, because October evenings by the water cool off fast
Follow the Candy Trail at SeaWorld
SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from September 11 through November 1, 2026, and it’s included with park admission on event days. The centerpiece is Captain Sweet Tooth’s Candy Trail, open 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Costumed kids work their way past candy stations. That’s the whole job.
A reusable bag is required on the trail, so bring one from home or pay $4.99 for a SeaWorld bag inside the park. Trick-or-Treat with Baby Shark is a 30-minute show at Mission Bay Theater, with reserved seats at $9.99 per guest, and every guest needs a ticket. Guests 13 and older can’t wear masks or hoods. Plan around the toddler, not the schedule.
Meet the Monsters at LEGOLAND
LEGOLAND California is built for kids 2 to 12, and Brick or Treat keeps the scares firmly inside that range. It’s included with dated admission on event days, which for the rest of 2026 are October 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31, plus November 1. Candy stations open at 3 p.m. and run until the park closes. New this year is Brick or Treat Street, six life-sized LEGO monster houses with residents like Wacky Witch, Wolf Guy, and Plant Monster.
At Scarecrow’s Barn, kids strike a pose and shout their best scare to earn a LEGO brick. Very serious business. Paper bags are handed out at the check-in table in MINILAND, and your own bag or basket is fine, just not a rolling one. Full masks are for kids only. The park doesn’t offer allergy-friendly treats on the trail, so if your child has a food allergy, pack your own swaps.
Trick-or-Treat by the Boardwalk at Belmont Park
Beachside Fall Fest runs every weekend through October 31 at Belmont Park, 3146 Mission Blvd. in Mission Beach. Every Sunday in October, kids trick-or-treat through the park for free. On October 25, the Trunk-or-Treat Car Show adds more than 50 classic cars with candy stations, which is one of the rare events where the grown-ups get as excited as the kids.
If the littles want rides too, Belmont Park’s October deal gives one free kids wristband with each adult wristband, using promo code KIDSFREE. Expect face painting, glitter tattoos, and pumpkin stilt walkers roaming the walkways. Trick-or-treat start times aren’t posted yet, so check the park’s site before you load the car. The beach is right there. Plan on sand in the candy.
Walk India Street in Little Italy
Trick-or-Treat on India Street is one afternoon only: Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. India Street closes to cars from W. Cedar to W. Grape Streets, and participating businesses hand out candy along the way. Pick up a map at the Piazza della Famiglia, at India and W. Date Streets, and start there.
The piazza gets a Nightmare Before Christmas scene this year, including a 13-foot Jack Skellington, which is either the best photo op of the month or a reason to walk a little faster, depending on the kid. There’s a new coloring zone, live music at India and W. Fir, and a costume contest. Arrive early. Small legs run out before the candy does.
Two kids, and only one of them is ready for a candy trail? A Sitterwise caregiver can stay back at the hotel or vacation rental with the baby, so naps stay on schedule while you take the bigger kids out. Or flip it: a caregiver handles the costumed crowd at an afternoon event, and you get a quiet evening once the candy has been sorted and traded.
Nobody remembers which station had the good candy. What sticks is smaller than that. The way a four-year-old says trick or treat to a stranger for the first time, half whisper and half dare. The costume that was non-negotiable in August and abandoned on a bench by 5 p.m. A Halloween that ends before bedtime is still a real Halloween. It might be the one they talk about next year.
